Born in Austin, Texas – a LONG time ago – Josh began his studies at St. Andrews Episcopal School. Beginning in the 7thgrade, Josh entered public school at Martin Junior High. At that time, transportation took around 3 hours, round trip. (Josh was “the first one on and the last one off”…which also encapsulates his professional and political career!)
S.F. Austin High School was closer to home…and easier to get to after he was given a 1973 Chevy Nova. Then, during his junior year, Josh won the prestigious opportunity to work as a U.S. Page for Congressman Jake Pickle. Based in Washington, DC, Josh was able to witness first-hand the good that public service can accomplish. A year later, he returned to Austin and graduated from high school…but not before being elected both Student Body President and Homecoming King.
Josh was one of the first recipients of the (highly competitive) Hunt Leadership Scholarship at Southern Methodist University. Four years later, Josh graduated SMU with three BA degrees; he also perfected his Spanish during his year abroad in Madrid, Spain. Then to law school: Josh successfully graduated from Stanford Law School, where he became a published author in Stanford’s Law Review. Before graduating, he won and completed internships with the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
Josh is now a member of the Texas, New York, and District of Columbia bars. Josh began his legal career with Linklaters, a “Magic Circle” law firm of global renown based in London. During his over 15 years of practicing law, he has worked at firms and corporations in Washington, DC, Mexico City and Dubai. In 2012, he returned to Houston for the birth of his son, Noah…because there was absolutely no way that his son would not be born in Texas.
In early 2017, Josh left his position as Chief Compliance Officer of a major corporation to start his own law firm, the Wallenstein Law Group. Josh is still working hard today. He is married to Luciana (Nascimento) Wallenstein – a native of Brazil. He is the proud father of Noah Wallenstein…and a ferocious Mexican toy poodle named Teka.
